SUN BEAR

General Description:

Sun bears are the smallest of the bear species with a characteristic orange to cream colored chest patch.


Distribution:

Southeast Asia


Habitat:

Sun bears inhabit dense lowland forests.


Diet:

Sun bears feed on ants, bees, beetles, honey, termites and plant material such as seeds and several kinds of fruits.


Population: Unknown, possibly less than 1000

Length: 4 to 5 feet

Height: 2 feet

Weight: Males: 60 to 145 pounds, Females: 50 to 130 pounds
